The Troll

Torolla was a bridge-tender troll who was destined by the Norse Gods to live in a subterranean cavern and would be turned to stone if hit by the sun. Torolla demand tribute from all who passed and his guarded treasure

One day farmer John was driving wagon over the bridge and asked his reclusive daughter, Anastasia to throw the tribute off the bridge so they might pass. Anastasia approached the railing with money in hand, day dreaming of Tom, the tin smith, whom she had a secret crush on.

Anastasia's mind was on how plain and unattractive she was when she slipped on the wet bridge, falling through the railing into the raging water below and swam into the cave of the Troll

Well, Torolla had little joy in life but frightening little girls was one of them, it was not as much fun as it used to be. When Anastasia fell in, Torolla put on his most threatening appearance and loudest voice as he charged Anastasia

To his surprise Anastasia did not flee but instead said "Go ahead and Kill me, for I am too ugly to live". Well, Torolla said: "No One is an ugly as I, Torolla the Troll". Anastasia insisted she was. It wasn't working.

Anyway Torolla had been around from the beginning of time and was quite Wise. He said: "I have been made ugly because I opposed the Gods, but for humans, Beauty comes from within". "You are beautiful and you only need to know it and feel it for the beauty to come out" Picking a piece of moss from the cave wall, Torolla said: "Eat this Magic moss of Believing, and the Truth will be revealed to you."

With that Anastasia ate the moss and she could feel her body changing. Torolla said: "Go now to your Destiny". Anastasia climbed the river bank to her fathers waiting wagon. Her father was amazed no only that Anastasia was alive, but how beautiful she was praised her all the way into town.

Once in town, Tom the tin smith, swooned over her, eventually they were married and lived happily ever after.

The chief of the great Norse Gods appeared to Torolla and said: "Torolla, You have done well, I now promote you to the Joyous post as The Wizard of the Wishing Well.
